Program Description
This program will explore the idea that in perinatal care, less intervention may create a safer environment for childbirth. Led by a panel of multidisciplinary experts, topics will include current trends in perinatal outcomes, the value of prospective use of EFM, optimal management of occiput posterior position, the use of chiropractic techniques to improve orthopedic pelvic condition during the perinatal period, and the state of knowledge regarding the impact of exogenous oxytocin on maternal/fetal health. Advanced EFM concepts and approaches to maternal/fetal safety will be incorporated.

Conference Location
The conference will be held at the Historic McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdate Oregon. This resort destination in the Pacific Northwest encompasses 74 acres at the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area. Edgefield is a 20 minute drive from downtown Portland and about 15 minutes from the Portland International Area. If you have never experienced Edgefield, you must!
Program Objectives
To assist perinatal care providers in:
1. Exploring the prospective use of fetal monitoring;
2. Facilitating physiologic measures and processes during birth that promote safe maternal and infant;
3. Developing and promoting care practices, systems, and services that integrate maternal, fetal and neonatal care;
4. Recognizing the need for mobilization when expedited delivery or movement to higher level of care is required;
5. Participating in activities that lead to empowered care providers as a means for risk reduction.

Keynote:
Michael G. Ross, MD, MPH is an internationally recognized fetal monitoring researcher and Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist. He is the Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship at Harbor UCLA, Distinguished Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Public Health at David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Los Angeles.
Elise Erickson, CNM, PhD(c) has been practicing as a midwife since 2005, after graduating from the University of Ilinois, Chicago. She is currently completing her PhD at Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, OR, with a research interest on the impact of exogenous oxytocin.
Jennifer Atkisson, RNC-OB, MSN, CNL is a nurse leader and clinical educator for Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center. She earned an MSN from the University of Portland. She is a founding partner of Pacific Perinatal Group and serves as the Conference Director.
Kathleen Lagana, RN, CNS, PhD is a founding partner of Pacific Perinatal Group. She earned her CNS, MSN, and PhD from University of California San Francisco. As the CEO of Lagana Healthcare Consulting, she consults on perinatal standard of care, drawing from 38 years of nursing experience.
Michelle Gerbi, DC is the co-owner and provider at Hood River Chiropractic and Wellness. Practicing since 2008, her specialties include musculoskeletal issues unique in the pregnant, laboring and postpartum woman.
Helen Welch, CNM practices midwifery at Kaiser Permanente. Trained as a midwife in the UK, she earned her MSN from Case Western Reserve in Ohio. She has had the privilege of supporting women through the process of pregnancy and birth for over thirty years.
Darla Maier, RNC-OB, MN has been in the perinatal field for over twenty years as a labor and delivery nurse, educator and nurse consultant. She earned her MN from Oregon Health and Sciences University and served as clinical faculty in undergraduate nursing at University of Portland and Concordia University. She is a certified AHWONN fetal monitoring instructor and a founding partner of Pacific Perinatal Group.
Judie Hesse, BSN, LNC, RNC-OB, COEFM has been a labor and delivery nurse for 25+ years. She is also a legal nurse consultant and AWHONN EFM Instructor. As a founding partner of Pacific Perinatal Group, she serves as the Director of Fetal Monitoring.
Doug Raymond is a founding partner at Beam & Raymond in Chicago, IL with a practice specialty in birth trauma and injuries, he has settled cases all over the country. He earned a degree in micriobiology from University of Maryland and a degree in law from University of Denver.
