Program Description:
Dr. Schifrin explores the idea that in expert EFM interpretation and management, patient advocacy is the best approach for assuring maternal/fetal wellbeing and avoiding claims of malpractice.
Program Objectives:
To assist perinatal care providers in
1) Recognition of advanced fetal monitoring challenges related to maternal/fetal complications;
2) Understanding the concept of multiple mechanisms of fetal brain injury during the intrapartum, including cranial compression ischemic encephalopathy (CCIE), prolonged partial hypoxia, & total acute hypoxia; and
3) Participating in clinical management that promotes patient safety and risk reduction for the mother, fetus, and neonate
About the Speaker:
Dr. Barry Schifrin, MD is a pioneer in electronic fetal monitoring. His broad knowledge has made him a leading and controversial advocate for fetal well-being. Dr. Schifrin has held professorship appointments in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Harvard Medical School and University of Southern California and Loma Linda University Schools of Medicine. He was also the Director of the residency program in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Glendale Adventist Medical Center. As a clinician, he has served as the Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at several community hospitals in Southern California. Dr. Schifrin has published over 200 articles and books.
